The promise of 1000 origami cranes.
In many cultures around the world, the crane has long been considered a symbol of health, longevity, and commitment. The ancient Japanese tradition of senbazuru promises that a person who folds 1000 origami cranes will be granted a wish, such as long life or recovery from illness.
Often senbazuru are hung on strings and presented to a person who is ill, as a wish for recovery. Many times a family or group of people with a collective wish will come together to complete 1000 origami cranes.
